About Sukoon

What is Sukoon?

Sukoon for iOS lets you blend high-quality nature sounds into your own personal soundscape, and now pairs it with a set of guided breathing exercises. Crafted for focus, rest, and sleep.

Sukoon (سُكُونْ) is an Arabic word meaning stillness. In Arabic script, it is also a diacritical mark (◌ْ), a small circle placed above a letter to indicate silence: no vowel, no motion, just pause.

Key Features

Whether you need to focus on work, wind down after a long day, or drift off to sleep, Sukoon gives you full control over each individual sound layer (and a calm, animated breathing guide) to craft exactly the atmosphere you need.

  • Soundscape Mixer

Blend ten sound layers at once, nine from nature plus brown noise, each with independent volume, and a one-tap "Surprise me" mix.

  • Guided Breathing

Six breathing patterns (Box, 4-7-8, Coherent, Physiological Sigh, Triangle and Energize) plus a custom rhythm builder, followed by a glowing orb that expands and contracts to guide each breath.

  • Curated Scenes

One-tap moods like Rainy Night, Ocean Dawn, and Campfire, or save three of your own mixes.

  • Streaks & Journey

Track your breathing streak, mindful minutes, and session history, all kept privately on your device.

  • Five Calming Themes

Choose from Sukoon (forest at dusk), Twilight, Ember, Ocean, and a light Daylight theme, all gentle on the eyes.

  • Sleep Timer

Set a timer and your soundscape gently fades out, perfect for falling asleep.

  • Background Playback

Keep your soundscape playing while using other apps or when your screen is locked.

  • Offline & Private

Every sound is bundled in the app. No internet, no account, no tracking, ever.

The Story

Why Sukoon exists

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”

Anne Lamott

If you are anything like me, you used to open several tabs at once, one for rain, one for a campfire, one for waves, just to put together your perfect mix of sounds. The thought came from there, and so the app was created.

I have been using it myself for a few months now, and in September 2026 it was finally released.

I hope you enjoy it. If you would like to suggest another sound, ask for a feature, or report a bug, please get in touch at hello@cs42.org.

Peace.
