One phone. One room. Three generations.

Open Lamma once everyone is sitting down, pick a deck, and the phone becomes the centre of the table. Read a card out loud and let whoever wants to answer, or pass the phone so everyone gets a turn by name. Every question is written in both Arabic and English, so grandparents and grandchildren can play together.

About Lamma

What is Lamma?

لمّة is the everyday Arabic word for the family get-together: the evening when everyone ends up in the same room. Lamma is a card game made for that evening. There are no rules to learn and no scores to keep. Pick a deck, read a question out loud, and let the room take it from there.

Family gatherings have a way of splitting up: the grown-ups at one end, the kids on their phones at the other. Lamma puts one phone in the middle instead. The questions are written so a seven-year-old and a grandmother can both answer them, and many of them are the ones families never think to ask: what song your mother sang to you, what the old house was like, how your grandparents met.

Every card is written in both Arabic and English. The whole app can run in either language, fully right to left in Arabic, and any single card flips to the other language with one tap, so a grandparent can read it in Arabic while the grandchildren follow in English.

The app remembers which questions your family has already seen, so next week's gathering starts with fresh ones.

The App Store set is one continuous picture, so keep swiping.

Gather the whole family: the Lamma home screen with its six decks, with the Icebreakers and Memory Lane decks lifted out beside the phone.
One question, many stories: a card asking what song your mother sang to you when you were little, during Teta's turn.
Flip any card to Arabic: the same question shown in Arabic, with the English card beside the phone.
Fully Arabic, right to left: the home screen in Arabic, with a Memory Lane question about the night before Eid.
Everyone gets a turn: the Heritage and Elders deck set up for Your Turn, four players with five questions each.
Pass the phone around the room: the hand-off screen, Your turn, Teta, in Arabic and in English.
The little ones play too: the welcome screen with the language choice and Kids are playing switched on.
Keep the ones you love: a saved question in Arabic and English, ready to share as a picture or as text.
Lamma, made for evenings when the phone gets passed around: the app icon with six decks, 332 questions, Arabic and English, and a kid-safe mode.

Swipe or scroll sideways: each panel picks up where the last one ends.

Key Features

  • Table Talk

One card at a time, read out loud, and anyone can answer. Tap for the next card, swipe up to skip one.

  • Your Turn

Pass the phone around: five questions each, then it moves on. Add first names and Lamma hands the phone to each person by name.

  • Six Decks

From quick icebreakers and this-or-that votes to memory lane, deep questions and heritage stories for when the grandparents are in the room.

  • Arabic and English

The whole app in either language, fully right to left in Arabic, with Eastern Arabic numerals if you like. Flip any card to the other language in one tap.

  • Kids Are Playing

Holds back the cards that need grown-up memories, so a child's turn never lands on a question they can't answer.

  • Choose the Depth

Questions come in three depths: icebreaker, medium and deep. Turn levels on or off and see straight away how many cards are left.

  • Save and Share

Tap the heart to keep a question for later. Saved questions show both languages together and can be shared as a picture or as text.

  • Stays on Your Phone

No accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no internet needed. Names, saved questions and history never leave the device.

Where can I get Lamma?

On the App Store, free for iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. Every deck is included, and there is nothing to buy inside the app.

How many people can play?

As many as fit in the room. Table Talk needs no setup at all. For Your Turn, add up to 24 first names and the phone goes round by name.

Can grandparents and grandchildren play together?

That is what it is made for. The questions are written so all ages can answer, the Memory Lane and Heritage & Elders decks are built around the grandparents' stories, and any card flips between Arabic and English in one tap.

Is it safe for young children?

Kids are playing is on from the start: Lamma holds back the cards that need grown-up memories, so a child's turn never lands on a question they can't answer. You can turn it off in Settings. Each deck also shows who it suits best.

Do I need the internet or an account?

No. Everything is in the app and on your phone, so it works anywhere, including at a family house with no Wi-Fi.

Will we see the same questions again?

Not until you've been through them. Lamma remembers which questions your family has seen, and you can reset that history in Settings.

Can I suggest a question?

Please do. Send it in Arabic, English or both to hello@cs42.org.

We typically respond within 48 hours.
